Solar in the Helderberg
The Helderberg sits at the eastern edge of the metro, in and around Somerset West, Strand and Gordons Bay. It is a warm, sunny basin sheltered by the Hottentots Holland mountains, with a mix of established suburbs, newer estates and smallholdings.
Estates here often have architectural guidelines, so we check the rules before we place panels or equipment. The basin's summer heat means air-conditioning load can be significant, which is worth designing for, and the sun resource is one of the better ones in the metro.
What we install
We fit solar PV, hybrid inverters and lithium battery systems, and we install solar geysers for families with high water-heating costs. For smallholdings and larger plots, we can look at higher daytime loads such as boreholes and outbuildings.
Why the Helderberg suits solar
Good sun, more space and a strong mix of owner-occupied homes. The main considerations are estate guidelines, roof orientation and, on the coast at Strand and Gordons Bay, the salt air. We design around all three and keep the roof warranty intact.
